Seized Gold From Galamsey To Build Schools, Hospitals And Roads In Mining Communities – Procurement Started – Sammy Gyamfi

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi Esq., has disclosed that government will sell all gold seized by GoldBod and the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) from illegal mining activities to fund development projects in mining communities.

According to him, proceeds from the seized gold will be used to build schools, hospitals, roads, clinics and other critical social infrastructure, specifically in mining communities that struggle to access such facilities.

Speaking during an engagement on small-scale mining, Mr. Gyamfi said the initiative is targeted at transforming the very communities affected by illegal mining.

“We will sell all seized golds seized by the GoldBod and NAIMOS through illegal trading for schools, hospitals, roads, clinics etc,” he stated.

He revealed that procurement processes have already started to ensure the projects take off in earnest.

Mr. Gyamfi explained that many mining communities find it difficult to access good healthcare, quality schools, and good roads, despite sitting on vast mineral wealth, hence the need to use the seized gold to directly benefit them.

“This facilities would be built in the mining communities where they find it difficult to get good health, school, road and etc,” he assured.

The GoldBod CEO emphasized that the move is part of government’s broader strategy to ensure that resources retrieved from illegal mining are not left to waste but are channelled back to improve lives in affected communities.

He further reiterated GoldBod’s commitment to responsible sourcing and sanitizing the small-scale mining sector to ensure Ghana fully benefits from its gold resources.
