Residents of Bondaye- Alhassan, a community near Prestea in the Western Region, have praised Okutey Mines for rehabilitating a deteriorating road network that had made transportation difficult, particularly during the rainy season.
The mining company undertook the intervention after residents and other road users experienced difficulties accessing the community due to deep potholes, stagnant water and muddy conditions.
Speaking about the situation, the company’s foreman, Mr Isaac Osei, said the road became almost impassable during the rainy season, creating serious transportation challenges for residents and motorists.
He explained that the poor condition of the road had affected movement within the community, prompting the company to intervene.
According to him, the Chief Executive Officer of Okutey Mines, Mr Richard Osei, instructed the company’s engineering department to construct a bridge and undertake major road improvement works to address the problem.
The head of the engineering team, Mr Osei, said the project took two months to complete.
He said the work involved constructing a bridge, filling low-lying sections of the road and reshaping the surface to improve accessibility and make transportation easier for residents and other road users.
Residents who spoke to Ogyeaman.com expressed appreciation to Okutey Mines for what they described as a significant intervention that had eased their transportation difficulties.
They also appealed to the government to support the mining company so it could sustain its development initiatives and extend similar assistance to other communities within its operational catchment area.
The intervention highlights the role private companies can play in supporting local infrastructure development, particularly in communities where poor road networks continue to affect livelihoods and access to essential services.
